FUN FACT: You have a better chance at surviving in a helicopter when the engine fails than you do in an airplane. This is due to auto rotation, which is the rotor blades’ ability to continue turning and providing lift even if the engine fails. As the helicopter descends, air is forced up through the rotor spinning it and generating stored energy. This energy can be used to control the helicopter safely and make a safe controlled landing without the engine.
